Rules/Regulations/Specifics
- 9 players on the field, with unlimited roster.
- Teams can decide whether it's tackle or flag before the game.
- Offensive team required to have 3 lineman (center and two guards) who are ineligible receivers. Therefore, if you have a any other player
lined up outside the lineman, they're considered a tight end and are eligible receivers. The 3 designated linemen must be lined up with someone. either on their outside, inside, or head on. if not, this illegal formation and a 5 yard penalty.
***Note: this rule does not apply to the flag football games.***
- There will be a two (2) yard neutral zone between offensive and
defensive lines.
- 1st down at every cone (approximately 20 yards).
- Touchdowns worth 6 points.
- PAT from 5-yard line worth 1 point.
- PAT from 10-yard line worth 2 points.
- Safety worth 2 points.
- No field goals, fake punts, or on-side kicks.
- Kickoffs will be from the kicking team's 40 yard-line OFF the ground
(no throw-offs or punting). Receiving team is required to have 5
players on their 40 yard line and the rest can be anywhere to return
the kick.
- Offensive team must notify for a punt. Kicking team is all on the
line, receiving team needs 5 players on the line also. No one moves
until the ball is kicked.
- All fumbles are live balls.
- **Flag football fumble rule**
If a player drops the ball without contact from an opposing
player, then it is a fumble (i.e., bad snap, fielding a kick,
bad hand-off, etc); but if the fumble is caused by contact from an
opposing player, the ball is dead.
- Note: there isn't an official referee since this is only playground
ball. Calls will be made by both teams in obvious situations or by an
appointed referee agreed upon before the game.
Tie-breakers
- Overtime: Each team gets 4 chances to score from the 10 yard line
until there is a winner.
- Winner of Turkey Bowl is determined by record. If a team is 3-0, then they automatically win. If there is a 2 way tie then those teams will play a playoff game. In the event of a three-way tie, points scored will be the next tie-break er to determine the two teams who will be in the playoffs, and points given up will be the 3rd tie-breaker.
*Playoff game: It is similar to college overtime rules: A coin will be flipped to determine who gets ball first (winning team of coin toss gets to decide).
- Teams will be given 4 chances to score from the 10 yard line (for girls) and the 20 yard line (for guys)
- Touchdowns are worth 6 points; PAT is worth 1 or 2 points starting from the 5 or 10 yard line, respectively.
- If the first team scores, the other team gets a chance to match the other team in points; and if both teams score, then the process begins all over again.
- If the second team fails to match, the first team wins tournament. If the first team fails to score, and second team scores, then the second team wins the tournament.
Time
- 2 20-minute halves, with running time except last 2 minutes of the last half; otherwise, clock is only stopped during a timeout.
- During the last 2 minutes of the second half, the clock will only stop
with every dead ball, timeout, or injury timeout.
- 5 minute halftime.
- 3 timeouts a game.
- 25 second play clock.
